Dinkinesh Animation (VIDEO) Southwest Research Institute This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. Caption New images captured by NASA’s Lucy spacecraft confirmed that the small main belt asteroid Dinknesh is a binary. This series of images were taken 13 seconds apart by the terminal tracking camera (T2CAM) on the NASA Lucy Spacecraft during its closest approach on Nov. 1, 2023. The apparent motion of the two asteroids is due to the motion of the spacecraft as it flew past at 10,000 mph. The SwRI-led mission will fly by 11 total asteroids in its 12-year mission to Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids.
