Quantum ruler for moiré quantum matter

This blowup of one of the sites in the moire; quantum material depicts the ladder-like energy levels of electrons (red and blue dots at right). The background of the ladder resembles graph paper energy, indicating that the measured energy level can be used a kind of quantum ruler to determine the electrical and magnetic properties of the material.
