Understanding the basis of Catalysis and Catalytic processes

Book Announcement

Bentham Science Publishers

Catalysis is an area of chemical sciences which has fascinated a wide range of academicians, researchers, chemical technologists and industries throughout the world. Progress in this field has been made owing to the thrust provided by this research and commercial interest. The field of catalysis is interdisciplinary by its nature, as it requires knowledge of organic synthesis, coordination and organometallic chemistry, reaction kinetics and mechanisms, stereo-chemical concepts and materials science.

Fundamentals and Prospects of Catalysis highlights many important topics and sub-disciplines in catalysis by presenting 7 chapters on different but varied catalytic processes. This volume presents the following topics:

  • Organocatalytic Asymmetric Synthesis of Spiroacetals and Bridged Acetals
  • Design and Development of Bimetallic Enantioselective Salen Co Catalysts for The Hydrolytic Kinetic Resolution of Terminal Epoxides
  • Recent Trend in Asymmetric Heterogeneous Flow Catalysis
  • Ball Milling: A Green Tool in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
  • Recent Advances in the Developments of Enantioselective Electrophilic Fluorination Reactions via Organocatalysis
  • Green and Sustainable Biocatalytic Routes to Prepare Biobased Polyols as Precursors for Polyurethanes with Comparison of Existing Biobased Polyol Technology
  • Polymers Used as Catalysts

About the Editor:

Prof. Goutam Kumar Petra did his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Dipankar Datta at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. He joined Tel Aviv University, Israel, as a post-doctoral research fellow under the assistance of Prof. Israel Goldberg. He visited the Max Planck Institute of Bioinorganic Chemistry, Mulhelm, Germany, during 2006--07, and worked as a boys cost fellow in the group of Prof. Karl Wieghardi, and then as the Director of Max Planck Institute of Bioinorganic Chemistry, Mulheim, Germany. Currently, Dr. Petra is a professor at the Department of Chemistry, and a dean at the School of Physical Sciences in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University), Bilaspur. His research interests include chemosensor, redox activity, azomacrocyclic chemistry, crystal engineering, free radical chemistry, peptide nucleic acid (PIMA), porphyrin, and supramolecular chemistry. So far, he has published more than hundred research papers in the journals of national and international repute.

Santosh Singh Thakur received his masters (1994) and Ph. D. degree (1998) from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, India. He became a Senior Research Fellow of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-SRF), New Delhi, at the same place. Dr. Thakur has been associated with the Brain Korea 21 postdoctoral research and has been a senior scientist at Inha and Sungkyun Kwan University, South Korea, with Professor Geon-Joong Kim and Choong Eui Song. During his postdoctoral fellowship, he received the most cited papers (2005-2008) award by Tetrahedron Letters Elsevier Ltd. Oxford UK. In 2011, he became an assistant professor at Guru Ghasidas Central University, Bilaspur, India, and before joining, he was an associate professor of applied chemistry and working as the head of the deportment at Shri Shankaracharya Engineering College, Bhilai, India. Dr. Thakur published over 40 co-authored scientific papers, two edited book chapters and, is an active member of editorial boards of various national-level research journals. He has more than seventeen years of graduate and postgraduate teaching experience. His research interest includes homogeneous and heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis and molecular chirality.
