An analysis of atmospheric and oceanic interactions indicates that spring sea-surface temperatures in the North Atlantic influence atmospheric circulation and the jet stream's position over the North Atlantic, and are associated with a specific pattern of summertime atmospheric circulation over Western Europe--the summer East Atlantic pattern; the findings may help improve summer rainfall forecasts for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northern France, according to the authors.
