Predisposition to Caesarean birth

Peer-Reviewed Publication

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

A mathematical model of the evolution of fetopelvic disproportion (FPD)--mismatch between fetal and maternal dimensions--predicts that women who were born by Caesarean section because of FPD are more than twice as likely as women who were born vaginally to develop FPD in their own childbirth, consistent with results from several multigenerational studies finding that women born by Caesarean were more likely to give birth by Caesarean themselves than women born vaginally.
