Global health focus of new research partnership

Business Announcement

University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide's Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) has taken another major step forward in its mission to translate the best possible research into real health outcomes, by entering into a new partnership with the Campbell Collaboration.

JBI is a research institute based in Adelaide, Australia, with an international network of 70 collaborating centres and groups across leading universities and academic medical centres world wide. The Institute and its global collaboration work to promote and support the utilisation of the best available evidence, informing clinical decision-making at the point of care, for the benefit of healthcare professionals and patients.

JBI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Campbell Collaboration to develop a close working partnership aimed at improving the knowledge base for making decisions in social and health policy globally.

Based in Oslo, Norway, the Campbell Collaboration is an international network that reports on the impact of social and economic interventions and social trends, in areas such as crime and justice, education, international development, and social welfare. Its rigorous, high-quality evidence can be used by policy makers, practitioners, and members of the broader community.

"Our focus on the needs of healthcare practitioners and policy makers has plenty of scope for cross-pollination with the Campbell Collaboration, which will benefit our collective understanding on how evidence is translated into societal care," says Associate Professor Craig Lockwood, JBI Program Director for Implementation Science.

"This agreement between the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Campbell Collaboration can only increase the contribution both groups are able to make to the global need for high-quality, independent evidence in the health and social sciences."

The Campbell Collaboration's CEO, Howard White, says: "Campbell has adopted a new strategy which includes more active promotion of evidence synthesis. We are seeking partners for this work. I am very happy that Campbell and JBI have signed this agreement, and look forward to close collaboration in the years to come."

The partnership will run for an initial three years.
