Susan Blaeser awarded Acoustical Society of America Distinguished Service Citation

Susan B. Blaeser, Standards Manager of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), has been named recipient of the Distinguished Service Citation of the ASA for dedicated management of the Acoustical Society of America standards program. The award will be presented at the 171st meeting of the ASA on 25 May 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Distinguished Service Citation is awarded to a member of the ASA in recognition of outstanding service to the Society.

"It is truly an honor to receive the Distinguished Service Citation from the Acoustical Society of America. I have been blessed to work with many wonderful people who have supported me throughout my tenure as Standards Manager," said Blaeser. "I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together."

Susan Blaeser holds a BA from the State University of New York-Stony Brook. She was Managing Director of Island Harvest, the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island, and the Village Clerk-Treasurer of the Village of Thomaston, Long Island, before joining the ASA as Standards Manager in 2001.

As Standards Manager, Susan Blaeser manages the ASA Standards Secretariat and the ASA Standards Program. ASA Standards consists of four Standards Committees of which are accredited by the American National Standards Institute and one Subcommittee. These include: S1 Acoustics, S2 Mechanical Vibration and Shock, S3 Bioacoustics, S3/SC1 Animal Bioacoustics, and S12 Noise. The ASA Standards Secretariat also administers the U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to nine Technical Committees and Subcommittees of the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These include ISO committees on acoustics, noise, underwater acoustics, mechanical vibration, shock and condition monitoring and the IEC committee on electroacoustics.

Susan has been a member of the ASA Committee on Standards (ASACOS) and Associate Editor for Standards of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America since 2001.
