NJIT's NJII collaborates on new clinical data registry for radiologists

Business Announcement

New Jersey Institute of Technology

The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) at NJIT has partnered with SaferMD to offer a qualified clinical-data registry designed specifically for radiologists. The new registry, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), will enable radiologists to easily comply with CMS' 2016 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). It also will save them time and reporting costs, and help them avoid a 6 percent payment adjustment for not reporting.

PQRS measures how well providers have complied with best practices, and requires each provider to report on at least nine quality metrics annually or risk reductions in their Medicare payments. Starting in 2019, Medicare payments can increase by as much as 10 percent for providers who both report to PQRS and perform well compared to other providers.

The registry developed by NJII and SaferMD focuses on radiology-specific measures, including "critical result: pulmonary embolism," "urgent result protocol" and "result requiring follow-up protocol." Providers who participate in the registry will benefit from NJII's extensive, nationally recognized registry experience. SaferMD, a patient-safety organization and neutral third-party auditor of medical communications, is known for helping healthcare providers meet the highest standards of patient safety by decreasing communication failures that injure patients.

SaferMD will exhibit the registry at the Radiology Business Management Association's 2016 Radiology Summit Conference in Colorado Springs, April 24-27.
