The waves of refugees arriving at the borders of Europe and the Turkish election held in early November again showed the significance of this important neighbor for Europe and the entire region. The project "FEUTURE: The Future of EU-Turkey Relations: Mapping Dynamics and Testing Scenarios" hence addresses highly topical issues. The aim of the research project is to shed light on the multifaceted relations between Turkey and Europe, to explore Turkey's role in the region from a historical perspective and to develop scenarios for the future. This inter- and transdisciplinary analysis will create a basis for policy recommendations and lay out different options for future relations between the EU and Turkey - including membership and other potential partnerships.

For the project duration of three years, Professor Wolfgang Wessels, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at the UoC, will coordinate a consortium of 12 other renowned international universities and think tanks together with Dr. Nathalie Tocci, Vice-Director of the Instituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome and consultant to the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Besides numerous prestigious Turkish and European universities and institutes such as Koc University and Bilgi University in Istanbul, Middle East Technical University (Ankara) and the Centre for International Affairs and Documentation (Barcelona), the project also involves partners from Iraq, Egypt and Georgia.

Further information will soon be provided on the website of the Jean Monnet Chair.
