Beijing, Oct. 30, 2015: Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications (CVIA), a new journal affiliated with the Great Wall-International Congress of Cardiology, was introduced today at the opening ceremony of GWICC by Congress Chairman Prof. Changsheng Ma.
C. Richard Conti, MD, past president of the American College of Cardiology and former Editor of Clinical Cardiology, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the new journal and has published its first issue to coincide with the 26th GW-ICC meeting in Oct. 2015 in Beijing, China.
CVIA publishes focused articles and original clinical research that explore novel developments in cardiovascular disease, effective control and rehabilitation in cardiovascular disease, and promote cardiovascular innovations and applications for the betterment of public health globally. The journal publishes basic research that has clinical applicability in order to promote timely communication of the latest insights relating to coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmia, prevention of cardiovascular disease with a heavy emphasis on risk factor modification.
The GW-ICC is one of the largest congresses in the Asian-Pacific region and is the most comprehensive and influential academic conference on cardiology. Held as a regular annual conference since 1990, GW-ICC has provided a platform for continuing education in cardiovascular disease diagnosis, treatment, and technology training, through events that leverage the expertise of internationally renowned cardiologists and scholars from the United States, Europe and Asia.
The Founding Editor of the journal, Professor Dayi Hu in his opening Editorial notes the significant role of the GW-ICC from 1990 onwards in establishing contacts between Chinese cardiologists and their US and European colleagues. The GW-ICC has also been at the forefront of the growth in Chinese cardiology research, reflecting China's growing importance in world research rankings. In the year 2015 up through July, China has moved to second place in the number of cardiology papers published.
Professor Dayi Hu writes: 'It is evident that China now needs its own English-language, multi-national journal where top-rated articles from around the world can be published. Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications (CVIA), the new, official journal of the GW-ICC will fill this void. Unique to this journal will be the continuation of a scientific exchange of ideas between leading Chinese clinicians/researchers and clinicians/researchers around the globe.'

As the official journal of the GW-ICC, CVIA was established to further the special missions of the GW-ICC:
- To assist Chinese cardiologists in the advancements of cardiovascular learning and disease management.
- To accelerate the development of cardiology in China, while advocating cardiovascular public health education and cost effective use of state-of-the-art cardiovascular technology.
- To serve as a bridge between China and the international cardiology academic community.
CVIA will publish the best abstracts, articles and proceedings generated by the GW-ICC, as well as its programs.
As part of its mandate to help bring interesting work and knowledge from around the world to a wider audience, CVIA will actively support authors through open access publishing and through waiving author fees in its first years. Also, publication support for authors whose first language is not English will be offered in areas such as manuscript development, English language editing and artwork assistance.
