Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is now recognised as the world's fastest rising young university by Times Higher Education.
The university's rapid rise in the global stage for education is also fuelled by its high quality research, which is ranked 8th in Asia Pacific by Nature Index.
To determine the World's Fastest Rising Young Universities, Times Higher Education shortlisted 15 universities under the age of 50 which was ranked in its top 200 World University Rankings and measured their rise since 2011.
NTU Singapore topped this list with its meteoric rise of 108 places in Times Higher Education's World University Rankings in just four years.
Singapore's only representative in the World's Fastest Rising Young Universities table, NTU is ahead of other universities including Maastricht University from The Netherlands, UK's University of Warwick, South Korea's Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
In the new Nature Index 2015 Asia-Pacific, which tracks author contributions to scientific articles published in 68 top research journals, NTU was ranked 8th in the Asia Pacific region, 4th for Chemistry and 9th for Physical Sciences. This is after taking into account the relative contribution of each author for a paper, and the difference in representation between journals.
In the new Nature Index, NTU is now ahead of renowned institutions such as Japan's RIKEN, South Korea's Seoul National University and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); China's Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and the National University of Singapore.
NTU President, Professor Bertil Andersson, said there were several key factors which led the university's continued charge up various rankings, such as high-quality faculty and students, strong industry links and a government which is supportive of education and research.
"Being a young university, we needed to work much harder than the established ones in the globalised marketplace of today which was not easy. Over the last decade, we strove to create a modern and student-centric education framework and to establish an encouraging research culture in which innovative scientific breakthroughs can happen," Prof Andersson said.
"The Times Higher Education ranking is reflective of the university's improvements over the past four years in all areas, ranging from teaching to research, while our ranking in the Asia Pacific Nature Index recognises the high calibre of NTU's research and how the university is contributing towards Singapore's status as a world-class research and development hub."
In the 2014 Times Higher Education Top 100 Under 50, NTU was ranked fifth in the world. Last November, NTU debuted strongly in the inaugural Nature Index, published by Nature, the world's leading weekly international scientific journal, ranking 42 globally for its scientific research amongst 20,000 institutions worldwide, including universities and national research organisations.
