The journals of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Inc., (JBJS) have adopted PRE-val, a service designed to secure greater trust and transparency in peer review.

Select ADA and all JBJS journals will now feature the PRE-val badge or text link, giving their readers insight into the peer review process which occurred prior to publication. By clicking on the PRE-val badge or link, readers can view detailed information about the process itself such as method of review, rounds of review, plagiarism screening, and the individual roles involved in the review (Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, Statistics Editor, etc.). PRE-val enables the ADA and JBJS to reinforce the trust their readers have in their content and showcase the hard work of their authors, editors, and reviewers.

"We're really proud to have two such outstanding organizations as early adopters of PRE-val," said Adam Etkin, Founder and Managing Director at PRE. "Both the ADA and JBJS are committed to quality, rigorous peer review and PRE enables them to bring more visibility and transparency to the process for their readers."

"By placing the PRE badge on our articles, we're providing researchers and others the information they need to identify and ultimately build upon reliable information," explained Heather Norton, Director of Scholarly Publishing at the American Diabetes Association. "We feel this level of trust and transparency is of the utmost importance for facilitating advances in this and any field of research."

Both the ADA and JBJS journals are hosted on HighWire Press. The HighWire Open Platform is the first to enable the PRE-val API for the peer-reviewed literature it hosts online.

About PRE:

PRE is a suite of services designed to secure trust and transparency in peer review. PRE's flagship service, PRE-val, is the only service that provides independent, third-party verification of the peer review process at both the journal and article level. PRE-val leverages metadata direct from manuscript tracking systems to: confirm that a paper has undergone peer review in the manner advertised; and parse and display information related to the peer review process
