Business Announcement

BMC (BioMed Central)

Springer has launched a new open access journal, the International Journal of Implant Dentistry. Sponsored by the German Association of Dental Implantology (DGI) and the Japanese Socieities of Oral Implantology (JSOI), and published by SpringerOpen, the journal is dedicated to the exchange and discussion of new research in the field of implant dentistry. It will also be available on Springer's platform SpringerLink.

International Journal of Implant Dentistry will publish high-quality peer-reviewed primary literature, as well as systematic or invited reviews, prospective and retrospective clinical studies, clinical case reports, basic laboratory and preclinical research, and articles on material research and engineering.

The joint Editors-in-Chief are Yoshinobu Maeda of Osaka University Graduate School of Dentistry, Japan, and Hendrik Terheyden of Red Cross Hospital in Kassel, Germany. They lead an experienced editorial board dedicated to the high quality of the articles published in the journal.

"In many countries open access publishing is now already mandatory for research grants from public organizations," said Maeda. "We are happy to provide this option to all authors free of charge for the first years."

Terheyden added: "The journal offers simple online submission, efficient approval processes and peer review with strict quality criteria. Up-to-date article level metrics add additional information for the authors, including the number of accesses, citations, connections to social media and the option to directly access readers' comments." He summarised: "We are confident that this new journal will provide the appropriate forum for researchers in the field."

Sebastian Frühwirth, Editor GLS Scientific Journals Medicine at Springer explained: "We are very pleased to be working with the DGI and JSOI. Together with our colleagues at Springer Japan we are committed to disseminating knowledge in nearly every discipline, and this new addition to our open access portfolio fits perfectly with that mission."
