Elsevier publish CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre official journal Studies in Mycology

Business Announcement

Elsevier

Amsterdam, June 2, 2014 – Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today its publishing agreement with The CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Per June 2014 it will publish and host the organization's official journal: Studies in Mycology (SiM), which will be made available open access on ScienceDirect.

The CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre hosts a world-renowned collection of living filamentous fungi, yeasts and bacteria numbering more than 80,000. In diversity of species it is unrivalled as a reference centre for mycological research. Its journal Studies in Mycology publishes systematic monographs of filamentous fungi and yeasts, with special issues on all fields of mycology, including biotechnology, ecology, molecular biology, plant and human pathology. Papers follow the current molecular and polyphasic taxonomic approaches and are richly illustrated by high quality colour images, and interactive links to MycoBank, GenBank and culture collections such as the CBS.

Studies in Mycology was first launched in 1972. In 2002 SiM became the first OA journal listed in Web of Knowledge in the field of mycology and since 2007 it has been the leading journal in the field based on impact factor.

According to the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Robert A. Samson of the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, the main reason for selecting Elsevier to publish the journal is its ambition to not only publish cutting-edge research, but also the possibility to directly link to other published datasets in different fields of biology.

"Elsevier will help us achieve our future goals for the journal. Plans include, among others: enabling research papers to be interactively linked to live databases and multimedia hosted elsewhere and which too are constantly evolving; thus helping scientists to ask more in-depth questions than previously possible," said Samson.

"It is with great excitement that we announce this collaboration with the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre in the Netherlands. We are looking forward to contributing to the further development of Studies in Mycology by applying the global reach and innovative functionality of our journal platforms," says Bernard Aleva, Sr. Vice President of Innovation and Publishing Development at Elsevier.
