STRIATUS/JBJS, Inc., expands into data products for the scholarly publishing community

Announces PRE-score acquisition

Business Announcement

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery

Needham, MA– STRIATUS/JBJS, Inc., publisher of the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and its family of journals and educational offerings, is pleased to announce the acquisition of PRE-score, a new journal metric product that seeks to help readers identify journals that conduct ethical, rigorous peer review, and to quantify peer-review approaches upon publication of individual articles. PRE-score tools aim to increase the transparency of the process and help readers discover quality published research in a systematic and reliable manner. PRE-score is currently under development.

"Clearly there is more and more scholarly material to sort through, but less time to do so," commented Adam Etkin, Managing Director for PRE-score, and its founder. "It's becoming increasingly important for the entire research community to be able to identify high quality, peer reviewed publications. One of the goals of PRE-score is to support legitimate, ethical journals that work hard to provide the best research material in their respective field. Working with STRIATUS/JBJS will allow us to provide PRE-score metrics and tools that ultimately benefit readers, authors, librarians, and publishers."

"The Internet has expanded the ways researchers, physicians, and surgeons can discover and share information. It has also created the need for a standard, leading indicator for peer-reviewed information," explained Kent R. Anderson, CEO of STRIATUS/JBJS, Inc. "Peer review is commonly claimed, but standards and approaches vary significantly. This acquisition is a natural extension of our commitment to rigorous peer review, and I believe PRE-score will play an important role in supporting and improving the general level of peer-review."

About PRE-score

PRE-score is a new, patent-pending system that produces a metric ("Peer Review Evaluation Score" or PRE-score) that measures the level of peer review conducted prior to the publication of scholarly material. The goal of PRE-score is to represent the quality of the peer review process, based on the belief that a strong peer review process results in a more trustworthy final product.
