New Rochelle, NY, December 4, 2013–Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers announced the publication of the World Stem Cell Report 2013, a special supplement to the peer-reviewed journal Stem Cells and Development. Dr. Graham Parker (Wayne State University School of Medicine) and Bernard Siegel (Genetics Policy Institute) serve as Co-Editors-in-Chief of the Report, joined by Rosario Isasi (McGill University) as Managing Editor.

The World Stem Cell Report is the official publication of the 2013 World Stem Cell Summit, being held December 4-6, 2013 in San Diego, CA. The Report is available to all subscribers of Stem Cells and Development and to attendees of the World Stem Cell Summit at http://online.liebertpub.com/toc/scd/22/S1.

Notable papers in this year's Report include: "National Institutes of Health Center for Regenerative Medicine: Putting Science into Practice" by Mahendra Rao, MD, PhD, NIH Center for Regenerative Medicine; "The Ethical and Regulatory-Compliant Training and Practice of Regenerative Surgery in the United States and Abroad" by Allan Wu, MD, FACOG, FAACS, The Morrow Institute, Regenerative Surgery; "Navigating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Regulatory Science Initiative: An Imperative for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine Advocates" by Alan Jakimo, JD, MBA, Sidley Austin LLP; and "Key Action Items for the Stem Cell Field Looking to 2014" by Paul Knoepfler, PhD, University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

"The World Stem Cell Report is the topical foundation for the World Stem Cell Summit program, illuminating innovative solutions aimed at accelerating the delivery of effective stem cell treatments and eventual cures," says Bernard Siegel, JD, Co-Chair of the 2013 World Stem Cell Summit and Executive Director, Genetics Policy Institute (GPI, Palm Beach, FL). "Outside the laboratory, societies must find ways remove regulatory, legal, ethical, political, and business roadblocks. The Report addresses an unmet need in the literature and is an effective tool, serving as benchmark guide for moving the field forward."

"It is my pleasure as Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cells and Development to partner with Bernard Siegel and Rosario Isasi in producing the Report in support of the 2013 World Stem Cell Summit, an interdisciplinary meeting uniting researchers, clinicians, social scientists, and society leaders in the common goal of responsible stem cell based therapeutic advancement," says Graham C. Parker, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cells and Development, Wayne State University School of Medicine (Detroit, MI).

The Summit, presented by the Genetics Policy Institute, is the flagship meeting of the international stem cell community. The Summit aims to accelerate the discovery and development of lifesaving cures and therapies, bringing global stakeholders together to solve global challenges. It builds a foundation to advance cell therapies by establishing a supportive environment of regulation, legislation, financing, reimbursement, and patient advocacy. Attendees from more than 40 nations are expected to attend this year's meeting.
