Tecnalia, in close cooperation with the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU, (Department of Languages and Computer Systems - GHYM), will develop an innovative learning method based on ICTs to practise oral expression in second languages, to foster lifelong learning, the development of key skills, the creation of favourable environments, the promotion of the concept of active citizens and the development of support tools for their promotion.

This method, known as "BABELIUM", seeks to improve the way in which adults learn a second language taking a new approach in adult learning, professional training and university education, through an open, collaborative multi-platform, based on standards to practise oral expression in second languages and to foster the promotion of language learning, particularly the languages that are most used in the European Union.

Therefore, contents will be created in English, Spanish, French and German, whereby these contents will be tested in several countries and will be freely available. Strategies to support the learning process will also be available.

This new approach in second language learning will make the learning process easier, more attractive and available to adults.

It is an initiative within the Lifelong Learning Programme led by Tecnalia in conjunction with partners from France, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Latvia and Italy.
