Toronto – David Beatty, an adjunct professor of strategic management, at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management has been named as a member of the Order of Canada. The announcement was made by the office of the Governor General of Canada last Friday. Prof. Beatty was cited for his contributions to the development and promotion of corporate governance and ethics standards.

The Order of Canada, one of Canada's highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada's centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation. Over the last 46 years, more than 6 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.

Prof. Beatty is Conway Director of the Clarkson Centre for Business Ethics and Board Effectiveness at the Rotman School. He has taught strategy courses in the Rotman MBA and EMBA programs. He was the founding managing director of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance, the pre-eminent corporate governance organization in Canada, from 2003 to 2008. Currently, he serves as a director of FirstService Corporation, Walter Energy and Canada Steamships Lines. He has served on 31 boards worldwide and has been Chair of seven public companies.

Anne Sado, a Rotman MBA alumna, who is currently president of George Brown College in Toronto, was also named as a member of the Order for her leadership in post-secondary education as a college administrator and for her extensive community engagement.
