Frontiers launches new open-access journal in physics

Business Announcement

Frontiers

Frontiers, one of the world's largest and fastest growing open-access publishers, today announces the launch of a new journal, Frontiers in Physics.

A broad scope journal covering all specialties, Frontiers in Physics will provide an open-science and interactive web platform for the research community to publish high quality and rigorously peer-reviewed articles.

Frontiers' real-time and interactive peer-review enables fast, fair and constructive review of a range of article types. With an average of three months from submission to final decision for a paper, articles are published quickly, under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, and are freely available to an international audience.

The 'Frontiers in' series of journals continually grows and evolves according to the needs of research communities. Frontiers is working closely with the Physics research community to build an open-access and multidisciplinary journal receptive to the direction and needs of researchers working in this field.

The initial specialty sections open for submissions are listed below and many more sections will complement this list soon:

  • Frontiers in Biophysics (Editor-in-Chief: Dieter W Heermann)
  • Frontiers in Biomedical Physics (Editor-in-Chief: Ewald Moser)
  • Frontiers in Computational Physics (Editors-in-Chief: Christian F Klingenberg, Kay Hamacher)
  • Frontiers in Condensed Matter Physics (Editor-in-Chief: Evgeny Tsymbal)
  • Frontiers in High-Energy and Astroparticle Physics (Editors-in-Chief: Jose W. Furtado Valle, Jan De Boer)
  • Frontiers in Interdisciplinary Physics (Editor-in-Chief: Alex Hansen)
  • Frontiers in Mathematical Physics (Editor-in-Chief: Emilio Elizalde)
  • Frontiers in Space Physics (Editor-in-Chief: Rudolf von Steiger)

"Frontiers in Physics is based on the highly innovative publishing model that other Frontiers journals have successfully tested and perfected since 2007. The information revolution demands a serious rethinking of scientific publishing and Frontiers in Physics is an excellent answer to this demand," says Prof. Alex Hansen, Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Physics and Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway.

"Frontiers in Physics will set a new standard in physics publishing by changing the review process through bringing the reviewers and authors in much closer contact than the standard today. The reviewers are accountable for their assessments in a much more direct way in the Frontiers model than in the traditional review process.

"Research assessment will be profoundly changed with the Frontiers publishing model. Given the weaknesses of today's system, this will be beneficial for the whole scientific community," Prof. Hansen adds.

"Physicists can now take control of scholarly publishing with the Frontiers open-access and research networking platform," says Dr. Kamila Markram, co-founder and CEO of Frontiers. "Our interactive peer review and open-science tools will certainly have a place within a community already passionate about making research widely available."

Authors are welcome to submit any of the following article types to Frontiers in Physics: Book Review, Classification, Clinical Case Study, Clinical Trial, CPC, Editorial, General Commentary, Hypothesis & Theory, Methods, Mini Review, Opinion, Original Research, Perspective, Review, and Technology Report.

Frontiers and Nature Publishing Group (NPG) have formed a strategic partnership to advance open-science. In collaboration with NPG, Frontiers is bringing its open-science platform for interactive peer review, post-publication evaluation and research networking to all fields in science, medicine and technology. The latest journal to go live as part of this drive is Frontiers in Physics.
