Ten new quarterly clinical review journals will be added to Springer's existing portfolio of medicine titles, starting this month. The journals will focus on a number of areas including anesthesiology, emergency medicine, genetic medicine, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, pathobiology, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology and surgery. Editorial responsibilities will be handled out of Springer's Philadelphia office, and the addition of these journals will further expand Springer's specialty medical coverage.
Each journal will have an editorial review board to ensure that the science and topics are current in order to help physicians stay abreast of the latest developments in each area. The thematic structure of each journal will be determined by editors-in-chief, who will collaborate with international authorities as section editors, and expert authors as contributors. Finally, each of the 28 comprehensive review articles published each year will feature annotated reference lists that highlight new developments and recently published papers of major importance. Below is a brief description of each new title.
Current Anesthesiology Reports will offer reviews on anesthetic pharmacology, cardiovascular anesthesia, neuromuscular blockade, obstetrical anesthesia, pain therapy, pediatric anesthesia and regional anesthesia. The editor-in-chief is Dr. Martin J. London from the University of California, San Francisco, one of the world's foremost institutions in the field of anesthesia.
Current Emergency and Hospital Medicine Reports will review topics on acute coronary syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, community-acquired infections, diabetes and metabolic disease, heart failure, hospital-acquired infections and thrombosis. The editor-in-chief, Dr. Charles V. Pollack, Jr., is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, one of the most active institutions in emergency medicine.
Current Genetic Medicine Reports highlights the field of genetics through research in cancer genetics, cardiovascular genetics, cytogenetics, epigenetics, genetic counseling and clinical testing. Dr. M. Illyas Kamboh, a world-renowned scientist who has published over 200 articles and received over $20 million in grant awards, will act as editor-in-chief.
Current Ophthalmology Reports will focus on topics such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, ocular infections, refractive surgery and stem cell therapy. Dr. Victor L. Perez from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the number-one-ranked institution in the field of ophthalmology, will be the journal's editor-in-chief.
Current Otorhinolaryngology Reports highlights the latest research in chronic rhinosinusitis, implantable devices, neurolaryngology, otolaryngic allergy, robotic surgery, sleep apnea, skull base surgery and thyroid surgery. The editor-in-chief, Andrew P. Lane, hails from Johns Hopkins Hospital, the top-ranking hospital in the field.
Current Pathobiology Reports will cover topics such as autophagy, cancer stem cells, induced pluripotential stem cells (iPS cells), inflammation and cancer, matrix pathobiology, miRNA in pathobiology, mitochondrial dysfunction/diseases and myofibroblast. Dr. Satdarshan (Paul) Singh Monga from the University of Pittsburgh, is the editor-in-chief of this new journal. Dr. Monga is also a member of the Hepatobiliary Pathophysiology Study Section at the NIH.
Current Pediatrics Reports will publish review articles covering allergy, critical care, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology–oncology, infectious disease, neonatology and nutrition/growth. Dr. Ronald E. Kleinman from Massachusetts General Hospital will act as editor-in-chief.
Current Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Reports focuses on amputee rehabilitation, interventional pain management, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, swallowing disorders and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation. Dr. Jeffrey B. Palmer, the new editor-in-chief, comes from Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Palmer is a highly cited author with over 100 published articles.
Current Radiology Reports will cover topics in abdominal imaging (including virtual colonoscopy), cardiac imaging, clinical MRI, dual-source CT, interventional radiology, minimal invasive procedures and high-frequency focused ultrasound, musculoskeletal imaging, neuroimaging, nuclear medicine, pediatric imaging, PET, PET-CT, and PET-MRI, radiation exposure and reduction, translational molecular imaging and ultrasound. Dr. Thomas M. Link, editor-in-chief, works at the University of California, San Francisco, and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in osteoarthritis and cartilage imaging.
Current Surgery Reports features articles on bariatric surgery, CT screening, endovascular treatment of complex vasculopathies, minimally invasive surgery, natural orifice surgery and transplantation. The editor-in-chief, Dr. Stephen C. Yang, leads the editorial board from Johns Hopkins Hospital, and is listed as one of the top 100 doctors in surgery by US News and World Report.
