Boulder, CO, USA – Editors B. Clark Burchfiel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Chen Zhiliang of the Chengdu Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources have compiled into one volume the results of more than 25 years of cooperative work between MIT and agencies in China. The editors have dedicated to the thousands of Chinese geologists who worked for several generations to produce the geologic maps on which the volume is based.

Tectonics of the Southeastern Tibetan Plateau and its Adjacent Foreland covers an area of approximately 1.5 million square kilometers in 15 chapters on tectonic units that individual authors recognized during 25 years of both field and laboratory study. Each chapter discusses the authors' understanding of the geology and offers interpretations of special geological relations, both local and regional, as well as currently unresolved problems of which there are many in this vast and poorly known region.

The final chapter provides a summary and interpretation of the preceding chapters. The book is accompanied by a DVD containing four plates: two tectonostratigraphic maps, a map of unconformities and a plate of cross sections, in both Illustrator and ArcGIS formats. All of the plates are digitized and fully layered, so the reader can manipulate them as desired.

Individual copies of the volume may be purchased through The Geological Society of America online bookstore, http://rock.geosociety.org/Bookstore/default.asp?oID=0&catID=8&pID=MWR210, or by contacting GSA Sales and Service, gsaservice@geosociety.org.

Book editors of earth science journals/publications may request a review copy by contacting April Leo, aleo@geosociety.org.
