Asian Journal of Psychiatry accepted for indexing in MEDLINE

Business Announcement

Elsevier

Amsterdam, August 13, 2012 -- Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce that the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, the official scientific journal of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations, has been accepted for indexing in Medline and will soon be accessible via PubMed. Indexing through the US National Library of Medicine's (NLM) will be retroactive, beginning with the September 2008 issue (launch issue of the journal).

Under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Prof. Matcheri Keshavan (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, Boston Massachusetts, USA), Managing Editor Prof. Russell D'Souza (Northern Psychiatry Research Centre, Melbourne USA) and an internationally renowned Editorial Board, this quarterly peer-reviewed publication is focused on general and comprehensive psychiatry for psychiatrists, neurologists and other physicians, psychologists and other clinicians, students of mental health, researchers, administrators and mental health policy developers.

The journal's unique Asian Pearls section highlights selected seminal papers from Asia, not previously available in the public domain, with the aim to raise awareness of Asian non-English literature to the international readership. The Medical Education section seeks to teach clinical and research skills (e.g. how to write a paper, how to evaluate evidence) thereby building capacity for innovation in low and middle income countries. The Early Career Psychiatrists Corner offers opportunities for publication of scholarly works and experiential articles from psychiatrists in training or early in their professional development. Finally, the Regional Updates and Practice Guidelines series are designed to disseminate status updates of psychiatric practice across nations, and disseminate best practices from evidence-based literature to improve global mental health care.

"The Asian Journal of Psychiatry fulfills an important niche among medical journals seeking to disseminate the rapidly expanding knowledge base in mental health in Asia and the rest of the world. Given the increasing magnitude, diversity and importance of mental health problems in the Asian continent, we may expect a rapid expansion in the scope of this Journal in the coming years," said Prof. Matcheri Keshavan.

"The Asian Journal of Psychiatry proposes to be the premium psychiatry journal in the conduit of the rapidly emerging and expanding scientific knowledge in mental health and neurosciences in the Asian continent that hosts most of humanity and the rest of the world, which is keen to access this scientific information, thus fulfilling an important need," said Prof. Russell D'Souza

"Rapid acceptance by Medline, only four years after its launch, clearly acknowledges the high-quality, significant work already published in the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, as well as the need for this journal in this domain. Thanks to the continuing passion, efforts and interest of the highly respected authors, editors, reviewers and readers, the Asian Journal of Psychiatry will be publishing bi-monthly as of 2013. We at Elsevier would like to thank and congratulate all involved for their contributions to this excellent achievement," said Lisa Colson, Publishing Associate at Elsevier.
