Amanda R. Barone was honored as the 2012 recipient of the ACMG Foundation/Signature Genomic Laboratories, PerkinElmer Inc., Travel Award at the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) 2012 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Charlotte, NC.
Ms. Barone was selected for the award for her platform presentation, "Triheptanoin Therapy for Inherited Disorders of Fatty Acid Oxidation."
Ms. Barone will complete her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2013. She received her Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology with High Distinction from the University of Michigan. She is currently involved in clinical metabolic genetics research at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and her research interests include treatment of genetic disorders in the pediatric setting, pediatric infectious diseases and the molecular biology of cancer.
The ACMG Foundation/Signature Genomics, Travel Award is given to a selected student, trainee or junior faculty ACMG member whose abstract submission was chosen as a platform presentation during the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting.
The ACMG program committee selects the Travel Award recipient based on scientific merit. In recognition of the selected presentation, Signature Genomics covers the travel costs for the recipient to the ACMG meeting.
