Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc and The Association of Applied Biologists (AAB) have launched Food and Energy Security, a new journal to meet the needs of authors and funders to publish international open access content in food and energy security.

Food and Energy Security will publish high impact, peer-reviewed, original research on agricultural crop and forest productivity to improve food and energy security. It will publish high quality articles from all over the world and will be actively seeking submissions from countries with expanding agricultural research communities. Papers from China, other parts of Asia, India and South America will be particularly welcome. The Editorial Board, headed by Editor-in-Chief Professor Martin Parry, is resolved to make Food and Energy Security the leading publication in its sector and will be aiming for a top-ranking impact factor from the outset.

Food and Energy Security will be published under the recently launched Wiley Open Access publishing program – a developing portfolio of specialist and broad scope open access journals which offer quality peer review, rapid publication, article-level metrics and funder and institutional centralised payments.

Professor Trevor Hocking, President of the AAB says: "This is an important development for the Association. The AAB has long experience of producing high quality scientific journals – we have been publishing Annals of Applied Biology continuously since 1914 – so this new addition to our portfolio will have a sound foundation. By furthering our partnership with Wiley-Blackwell and launching Food and Energy Security jointly with this internationally renowned publishing house, we intend to exploit the latest on-line technology and ensure that this will become the leading journal in its sector.

"We are very pleased that Professor Martin Parry has agreed to be the Editor-in-Chief. He is a distinguished scientist at Rothamsted Research, Head of Plant Science and also an experienced editor, having been Editor-in-Chief at Annals for 8 years. We share his commitment to make FES a top-ranking journal."

Liz Ferguson, Publisher at Wiley-Blackwell for Food and Energy Security commented: "Wiley Open Access offers societies and learned organisations the opportunity to engage with open access. Food and Energy Security is one of the first society partner journals to be developed within this program and we are delighted to publish this innovative new journal jointly with our existing partner, the Association of Applied Biologists."

The journal is open to submissions now and aims to publish its first content online in January 2012.
