MAYA project, innovation in timber construction systems with enhanced acoustic performance

Business Announcement

Elhuyar Fundazioa

The MAYA project aims to improve knowledge on acoustic performance of timber construction systems, and to boost innovation and development of new solutions, both for new building works as well as rehabilitation.

The project research areas include insulation (facades, roofs, forging, partitions, doors and windows), conditioning (finishes and coatings) and noise and vibration reduction in buildings.

The workplan will be distributed through 3 main tasks , all related through a sustainability framework for timber buildings:

  • Development of new products (led by Tecnalia).
  • Architecture in wood. Acoustic characterisation of building elements for insulation and acoustic conditioning (soundproofing). Drawing up Technical Guidelines (led by the Eduardo Torroja Institute).
  • Research on new methods and numeric models (led by Caend).

The contributions of the manufacturing companies for the cataloguing of timber products within the various designed solutions is channelled through MADERIA, Spanish Timber Association. The companies will collaborate in order to comply with the current soundproofing requirements for buildings, as well as to develop more innovative products for more sustainable construction.
