2 months of free access to the Cochrane Library for Taiwan

Taiwan residents will receive free access to The Cochrane Library in August and September 2011, in collaboration with the Taiwan Evidence Based Medicine Association at their Annual Conferencein September, whereDr. Charles Young, VP and Publishing Director for Global Clinical Solutions, atThe Cochrane Library's publisher, Wiley-Blackwell, will be presenting a session.

Dr. Young's session, "Global Trends in Clinical Solutions and Decision Support," will cover a background of Clinical Solutions and Decision Support and theirinteraction withEvidence Based Medicine. He will also discuss how Clinical Solutions /Decision Support and Evidence Based Medicine can work together to improve health outcomes, and the future of such initiatives.

The Cochrane Library is known for 'gold standard' systematic reviews in Evidence Based Medicine, which follow the strict methodology set out by the Cochrane Collaboration. The Library can be accessed at www.thecochranelibrary.com.

In 2010 Taiwan had the 6th highest level of full text accesses to The Cochrane Library in the world. The ten most popular reviews in Taiwan were:

  1. Cranberries for preventing urinary tract infections
  2. Acellular vaccines for preventing whooping cough in children
  3. Glucosamine therapy for treating osteoarthritis
  4. Action plans with limited patient education only for exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  5. Vitamin C for preventing and treating the common cold
  6. Interventions for tubal ectopic pregnancy
  7. Cranberries for treating urinary tract infections
  8. Interventions for preventing falls in older people living in the community
  9. Antibiotic therapy for prophylaxis against infection of pancreatic necrosis in acute pancreatitis
  10. Chest physiotherapy for pneumonia in adults

Taiwan's two month free access to The Cochrane Library is provided via IP recognition, so residents can access directly through www.thecochranelibrary.com.
