Business Announcement

Wiley

Boston, MA, July 18, 2011. Wiley-Blackwell, the Scientific, Technical, Medical, and Scholarly (STMS) publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., is pleased to announce a new partnership beginning in 2012 with the TESOL International Association (TESOL) to publish its two journals, TESOL Quarterly and TESOL Journal, both of which are currently self-published.

TESOL Quarterly, first published in 1967, publishes papers on topics of significance to individuals concerned with English language teaching and learning, and Standard English as a second dialect. TESOL Journal (TJ) is a practitioner-oriented electronic journal that aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in English language teaching and learning. Both journals will be available on Wiley Online Library in 2012.

TESOL's mission is to develop and maintain professional expertise in English language teaching and learning for speakers of other languages worldwide. The association encompasses a global network of approximately 52,000 educators.

"What began for TESOL as a search for a more robust platform to host its online journals culminated in a partnership with Wiley-Blackwell to provide that and so much more," said Carol Edwards, Publishing Manager, TESOL Publications. "The new partnership allows us the best of both worlds. TESOL maintains its identity and control of its journals while benefitting from Wiley-Blackwell's services and expertise on a scale that TESOL's small staff could not accomplish on its own."

Edwards continued, "An important factor in the decision was Wiley-Blackwell's trusted, user-friendly access to libraries and free or low-cost access to the developing world, where demand for English language learning continues to grow and which is a vital audience for TESOL. In addition, Wiley-Blackwell's innovations in Web 2.0 will expose TESOL's content in a far wider reach and provide enhanced benefits for TESOL members, allowing them to engage with the content and access supporting materials across the Wiley-Blackwell platform."

"We are delighted to begin this relationship with TESOL and to support them as the essential membership for teachers, researchers, and postgraduate students in English language teaching worldwide," said Philip Carpenter, Vice-President and Managing Director for Social Sciences and Humanities at Wiley-Blackwell. "Across education, linguistics, and communication, Wiley-Blackwell publishes over 70 journals, with many more in related areas. We will be able to leverage our position in this field to expand the reach of TESOL giving extra visibility and readership to the Quarterly and TJ."
