Innovation forum for people interested in electromobility

Business Announcement

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

This press release is available in German.

The results of research are useful only if they can be introduced into everyday life. To support the joint BMBF project "System Research for Electromobility" in this, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft founded the "Electromobility Forum" (Forum ElektroMobilität e.V.). Professor Ulrich Buller, Senior Vice President for Research at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Chairman of the Electromobility Forum, states: "It combines the expertise of Fraunhofer in this area with the actors in the market and offers a platform for synchronizing required research and adapting it to current requirements."

Expertise from research and industry is present in this association: experts from the automotive industry, energy industry, chemical industry or operators of vehicle fleets as well as manufacturers of batteries and industry players in machinery and plant engineering. "The demand for market-appropriate implementation concepts for electromobility is enormous," says Alexander Claus of the Electromobility Forum (Forum ElektroMobilität) office in Berlin. "Last November we were able to welcome more than 240 experts from business, science and politics to our first conference." In six technical meetings more than 24 speakers built ties that ranged from net integration to battery technology and vehicle concepts all the way to business models. They presented the latest results of Fraunhofer systems research, as well as the market expectations and industry requirements of E.ON, EWE, Volkswagen, Schaeffler, Süd Chemie, DIN, SIXT or TÜV Süd, for instance.

In a number of workshops, specialized technical information is exchanged, discussions are held and technology is transferred at an operational level on topics such as battery safety, net integration and charging infrastructure, testing and audit programs for electric vehicles or commercial transportation. Here, experts from science and business have the opportunity to get to know each other and to discuss obstacles, market expectations and requirements by the industry, to present innovations and launch cooperation projects.

If you want to personally experience and view the technologies of electromobility you can take part in one of the road shows regularly organized by the Electromobility Forum. These visits to the sites of the members of the association were well attended. For example, WITTENSTEIN AG in Igersheim, which is among the global leaders in drive technology, opened its doors for tours of its production facilities. Visitors received valuable information here regarding mechatronic solutions, high-performance engines or electronic components. Other road shows visited various Fraunhofer institutes, TÜV SÜD SENTON GmbH in Straubing and DIN e.V. in Berlin, Germany.
