New York, NY, March 31, 2011 – Columbia Business School is proud to announce that Sheena Iyengar, S.T. Lee Professor of Business, was awarded the Gold prize in the general business/economics category of the fourth annual Axiom Business Book Awards. The Axiom Business Book Awards were created by the Jenkins Group, and aim to recognize the best business books published in the last year. Professor Iyengar's winning book, The Art of Choosing, is purposed to help its readers become better choosers.

In The Art of Choosing, Professor Iyengar explores a variety of subjects, including if and how different cultures desire choice, and if human beings make decisions based on their best interest. The Art of Choosing has captured readers through its unexpected answers to these questions. Professor Iyengar based The Art of Choosing off her award-winning and discipline-spanning research that examines cultural, individual, and situational factors that influence people's choice-making preferences and behaviors.

"Sheena Iyengar's original premise and witty writing style combine to make this a real standout with our judges," says Axiom Awards director Jim Barnes. "It is rare for a book on such a scholarly topic to be so enjoyable to read."

Professor Iyengar's innovative research on choice has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Security Education Program. She holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School of Business, and Stanford University.
