Springer editor receives award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences

Alex Piquero recognized for his contributions to criminology

Springer editor Alex Piquero has been awarded the 2011 Academy Fellow Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS). He received this high-ranking honor for outstanding scholarly contributions and research in the field of criminology and criminal justice, as well as for his extensive number of publications in this discipline. The award will be presented to Piquero at the next ACJS meeting scheduled for March 1-5, 2011 in Toronto, Canada.

Alex Piquero is the Gordon P. Waldo Professor of Criminology at Florida State University. Piquero is co-editor of Springer's Journal of Quantitative Criminology. At Springer, he has also co-edited The Handbook of Quantitative Criminology, and serves on the Editorial Board of Journal of Experimental Criminology.

Piquero's research focuses on long-term patterns of criminal activity over the life course, criminological theory, and quantitative research methods. His future research will focus on the reasons why individuals engage in crime, and on incentives for criminals to break out of crime. Prof. Piquero has received numerous awards in research, teaching and mentoring since he earned his PhD at the University of Maryland in 1996.

The Academy Fellow Award is given to one recipient each year by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. The Academy, comprising researchers, students and practitioners, nominates scholars for distinguished contributions to and outstanding achievements in criminal justice education, as well as for professional contributions to the Academy in the form of active participation or leadership in the association.
