Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC (November 30, 2010) SAGE has partnered with the American Sociological Association (ASA) to publish Contexts, a quarterly magazine that makes sociology exciting and relevant to anyone interested in how society operates. The first SAGE published issue of Contexts will be Volume 10, Number 1, Winter 2011.

Edited by a team in the sociology department at the University of Minnesota, Contexts offers a smartly-written, thought-provoking take on modern life in our communities—it's an indispensable guide to understanding our dynamic society. Contexts publishes rigorous but accessible and readable sociological research that is appropriate for sociologists, other social scientists, and people outside the field

"The American Sociological Association is pleased to be expanding its recent but already flourishing publishing partnership with SAGE," said ASA Executive Officer Sally T. Hillsman. "SAGE presently publishes the majority of ASA's scholarly journals, including our flagship journal the American Sociological Review. With its experience in publishing the work of sociologists, SAGE is uniquely positioned to understand and augment the contributions Contexts magazine is making to sociology within the higher education community as well as to the broader public. We believe that SAGE can help ASA circulate this important social science-based magazine to inform an ever-expanding audience."

Contexts takes our favorite newspapers and magazines one step further, answering the "Why does that happen?" question with the research and experience of the best sociologists in the United States. The magazine includes feature articles, culture and book reviews, photography, as well as summaries of the latest findings from social science research.

"Contexts is a different kind of publication, one that appeals to both the educated lay reader and those in sociology and its related fields," said Jayne Marks, SAGE Vice-President and Editorial Director, Library Information Group. "SAGE looks forward to building on the great foundation laid by ASA and helping bring a broader global readership to this interesting and accessible magazine."
