September 10, 2010 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation (AIAA Foundation) is pleased to announce that Lauren Fitzpatrick from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., has won first prize in the AIAA Foundation's annual Undergraduate Individual Team Aircraft Design Competition.
The 2009� competition asked students to design a supersonic aircraft to serve as a booster for a low-cost space launch system capable of a primary satellite launch mission and a ferry mission to a remote launch site.
Individuals winning awards are:
First Prize: Lauren Fitzpatrick, the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., for her design "Air Fitz, Transonic Business Jet." Fitzpatrick's faculty advisor was Ron Barrett. Fitzpatrick will receive an award of $2,500 from the AIAA Foundation.
Second Prize: Sarah Kulhanek, the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., for her design "The Wrigley Business Jet Design." Kulhanek's faculty advisor was Ron Barrett. Kulhanek will receive an award of $1,500 from the AIAA Foundation.
Third Prize: Christopher M. Vaughn, the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., for his design "Modern Pioneer Midsize Business Jet." Vaughn's faculty advisor was Ron Barrett. Vaughn will receive an award of $1,000 from the AIAA Foundation.
