Business Announcement

Elsevier

Amsterdam, 20 May 2010 - Ten academic institutions will host 10 new webinars in the 2010 Scholarly Perspectives webinar series, launching on 25 May. and continuing through 2010. The webinars series, sponsored by Elsevier, is broadcast live and garners an audience of academic librarians and faculty. The goal is to create a virtual forum for librarians, end users and Elsevier product specialists to discuss and debate the evolving roles of search-and-discovery tools in research and teaching.

The 55 minute webinars feature a library information consultant, a university senior faculty member/researcher and an Elsevier product specialist. Presenters share their views and insights on the evolving role of peer-reviewed journals and books, and the tools and platforms developing around them. A short live Questions & Answers session with the attending audience follows the presentations.

The Scholarly Perspectives webinar series was launched in November 2009 with three webinars. These were well-received, with over 1,100 library professionals and researchers from the academic, government, medical and corporate sectors attending one or more webinars. This year, the expanded series will include five local language webinars (German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese) on regional topics and five English language webinars on global topics.

"It's a great opportunity for the global community of academic librarians to discuss topics and share how they've solved problems," said Stephen Cawley, creator and co-organizer of the series. "Listeners also have the chance to hear the topics discussed by academic researchers; it's a different perspective and a joint approach to progress," he added.
