University of Houston President Renu Khator and President Brian Norton of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in Dublin, Ireland, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions. The MOU is the result of discussions over the last two years to allow the two universities to explore new methods of cooperation in research, instruction and academic exchange in a variety of areas with a focus on energy.
DIT is one of the highest-ranked academic institutions in Ireland and is closely integrated into the economic and cultural life of the country. With roots dating back to the 1800s, DIT is distinct from other institutes of technology in Ireland in that it continues to build on its long tradition of providing education from certificate to the doctoral level. DIT currently has approximately 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is a member of the European University Association.
"We are committed to providing our students with a nationally competitive global education in which they'll get to know and interact with students from around the world," said UH President Renu Khator. "Collaboration with respected technology institutes like the Dublin Institute of Technology enhances the global perspective of our students and strengthens the comprehensive education offered at UH."
According to the MOU, DIT seeks a more vital undergraduate and graduate program to meet critical national and regional needs in their country. UH aims to assist that effort by aiding in the development of programs that meet those needs.
Collaborative programs the two institutions will explore include:
- Credit transfer for undergraduate, graduate and research students
- Faculty collaboration in research and exchanges
- Joint funding opportunities in relevant areas
The MOU agreement is for five years and is renewable.
