Verifying greenhouse gas emissions for climate agreements

Agreements to limit emissions of greenhouse gases are currently the focus of international negotiations, and with such agreements will come the need to accurately estimate greenhouse gas emissions and monitor their changes over time.

VERIFYING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS: METHODS TO SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE AGREEMENTS, new from the National Research Council, examines methods nations currently use to estimate their greenhouse gas emissions, and recommends strategies and technologies necessary for more accurate independent verification of countries' self-reported estimates. It will be released at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, March 19.
