Boulder, CO, USA - This new guidebook from the Geological Society of America (GSA) features field trips associated with the March 2010 joint meeting of GSA's Northeastern and Southeastern Sections in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
Chapters in this guide span the lowlands of eastern Pennsylvania to the highlands of northeastern West Virginia. Highlights include a one-day trip to examine soils and landforms across the diverse geologic terrain of the western Piedmont and Blue Ridge in north-central Virginia; a one-day trip focusing on the tectonic evolution of the Peach Bottom area of south-central Pennsylvania; and a two-day trip traversing the Blue Ridge and Valley and Ridge geologic provinces of western Virginia and West Virginia.
The field guide is formatted to extend to all readers, not just those attending the 2010 meeting, the opportunity to explore the complicated and rich geologic landscape of the southeastern and northeastern regions of the United States.
