William T. Carpenter to receive AIAA missile systems management award

December 15, 2009 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that the AIAA Missile Systems Management Award has been won by William T. Carpenter, former vice president, missile defense advanced technology product line, Raytheon Corporation, Tucson, Ariz. He will receive the award during the AIAA Strategic and Tactical Missiles Systems Conference, January 20󈞁, at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.

Carpenter is being recognized for his thirty years of contributions to increasing the body of knowledge of the science of guided missile technology. Carpenter's service, research, and expertise in the fields of aerodynamics, guidance, thermophysics, navigation, control, propulsion, and other technical disciplines have led to the development and use of technologies which have advanced the performance of several missile and missile defense systems.

Carpenter is an AIAA Senior Member and is a member of the scientific research society Sigma Xi. He holds a doctorate in electrical engineering, with a specialization in control systems, from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., and an Executive Master in Business Administration Certificate from the University of California – Los Angeles.

The AIAA Missile Systems Management Award recognizes candidates who have demonstrated innovative leadership in the establishment of an environment in which creativity in missile system technology can flourish, while demonstrating successful management of a major missile program by a government agency or an industry team.
