Philadelphia, PA, 4 November 2009 – Elsevier, world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce that beginning in January 2010 (Volume 93, Issue 1) it will assume co-publication of the Journal of Dairy Science, the official journal of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®), with the Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS).

Established in 1917, the Journal of Dairy Science (JDS) is a monthly peer-reviewed publication featuring original research and review articles that present the latest scientific and technical findings. It covers dairy foods; physiology and management; nutrition, feeding and calves; and genetics and breeding. JDS is currently the top-ranked general dairy research journal in the world. With an Impact Factor of 2.486 and a 5-year Impact Factor of 2.978, according to the 2009 Journal Citation Reports®, JDS ranks first (of 45 titles) in the agriculture, dairy and animal science category. JDS is also ranked as the number 1 journal in the category by Eigenfactor score.

According to Anthony F. Trioli, Publisher, Health Sciences Journals at Elsevier, "We are extremely pleased to add the Journal of Dairy Science, the most highly ranked journal in its field, to our animal science publishing portfolio. Working in partnership with the editor-in-chief, the JDS editorial board and ADSA, our goal is to extend the journal's reach both in the United States and abroad."

JDS readers represent education, industry and government, including research, teaching, administration, veterinary medicine, extension, management, quality assurance, product development and technical services in more than 70 countries. JDS is of interest to professionals in biochemistry, breeding, economics, engineering, environment, food science, genetics, microbiology, nutrition, pathology, physiology, processing, public health, quality assurance and sanitation.

Peter Studney, ADSA executive director, commented, "In working with Elsevier, we anticipate that JDS, the cornerstone of our publishing program, will continue to thrive and expand as a forum for global information exchange about vital topics in the field, to the benefit of our authors, society members and wider readership. We will be able to better position the journal in an increasingly complex publishing environment and take advantage of emerging publishing opportunities. This development and our decision to include JDS in the AGORA program of the Food and Agriculture Organization bode well for the future of the journal, the world dairy industry and ADSA."

The AGORA program is part of Research4Life, a partnership program of United Nations agencies, leading universities and publishers. Elsevier is one of the founding publishing partners of this program.
