Oxford, UK, 9 September 2009 - Elsevier, leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the launch of a new peer-reviewed business and management journal – Journal of Family Business Strategy. The first issue will be published in January 2010 and will be a primary forum for academics and scholars in the growing field of family business research.

The Journal of Family Business Strategy will publish a broad range of topics relating to strategy in family business. The journal will investigate family business strategy from different angles and disciplinary backgrounds including: business performance, branding strategies, long-term strategies, processes and outcomes of corporate entrepreneurship, new venture strategies, ownership, planning processes, financial and non-financial goals, resource allocation, network relations, corporate governance and family business in developing economies.

The Editorial Board will be led by the internationally recognized scholar Joseph H. Astrachan, Executive Director of the Cox Family Enterprise Center and Wachovia Eminent Scholar Chair of Family Business and Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at Kennesaw State University.

"The journal will be the primary publication outlet for academics and scholars, and will address a broad spectrum of organizations, independent of developmental stage, geographic location, internationalization, and size; from the largest oldest business in the world to the newest and most innovative venture," commented Dr Astrachan, "It has been started by academics and has no direct ties with consultants or those who work with family companies."

"In 2007, family businesses accounted for 60% of employment and 78% of new jobs within the United States. Family business is becoming an important topic within the field of entrepreneurship--a fast growing area with serious academic credentials," commented Elsevier Executive Publisher Tony Roche, "Our strong network within the community as well as recent bibliometric studies confirmed the need for a high-quality journal devoted to the family business. We are delighted with the interest received from established scholars and younger researchers in the field."
