AIAA to present awards at 7th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference

August 4, 2009 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is proud to announce that the following awards will be presented at an awards luncheon at noon on August 5 as part of the 7th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, to be held August 25� at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Paul Stella, principal engineer, spacecraft power systems, at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., will receive the AIAA 2009 Aerospace Power Systems Award. The AIAA Aerospace Power Systems Award honors a significant contribution in the application of engineering sciences and systems engineering to the production, storage, distribution, and processing of aerospace power. The citation on the 2009 award recognizes Stella for "a career of leadership and pioneering technical contributions to the advancement of the science and engineering of space photovoltaic power systems."

Robert Winn, Principal and Director of Colorado Operations at Engineering Systems, Inc. in Colorado Springs, Colo., will receive the AIAA 2009 Energy Systems Award. The award honors a significant contribution in the broad field of energy systems, as related to the application of engineering sciences and systems engineering to the production, storage, distribution, and conservation of energy. The citation on the 2009 award recognizes Winn for "sustained and outstanding contributions to energy systems, heat transfer and fluid flow studies, accident reconstruction, vehicle static, dynamic and aerodynamic analyses, performance analyses of mechanical systems, and analysis and prediction of aircraft icing systems."
