Applied Geomatics launched by Springer

New journal complements Earth Science publishing program

Springer is launching a new journal, Applied Geomatics, which will be the official publication of the Italian Society of Photogrammetry and Topography (SIFET). After the appearance of the first issue in April 2009, the journal will be available free of charge on www.springerlink.com throughout 2009 and 2010. Dr. Chris Bendall, Publishing Editor, Earth Sciences at Springer, said, "Applied Geomatics will provide a useful forum for professional and academic scientists involved in the exciting, growing field of geomatic science and technology. Springer is pleased to be working with the Italian Society of Photogrammertry and Topography and we look forward to a productive association. Through the Society's generous sponsorship, the online version of the journal will be provided free to readers for the first two years of publication."

Applied Geomatics will cover all aspects of scientific and technical advances in the geomatic sciences. The journal will publish innovative contributions in geomatics applications covering the integration of instruments, methodologies and technologies and their use in engineering, environmental and other natural sciences. Professor Alessandro Capra of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has been appointed Editor-in-Chief.

Professor Capra said, "We are pleased to collaborate with a partner who offers such a high level of publishing expertise. By launching this new journal with SIFET, Springer will enable the Society to provide quality information in applied geomatics to the global scientific community." The journal will cover many research fields, among them remote sensing, image analysis, digital mapping, and land and geographic information systems. In addition to original papers, reviews and short communications, the quarterly journal will also contain notices of conferences and international workshops, industry news, and information on new products. The journal will include the features Online First™, Cross Reference Linking, and Alert services.

The Italian Society of Photogrammetry and Topography (www.sifet.org) was constituted in 1951 and now has more than1,000 members involved in the acquisition, processing and delivering of spatially referenced information.
