Dr. Hujoel receives IADR Behavioral, Epidemiological and Health Services Research Award

International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Alexandria, Va. – Dr. Philippe Hujoel, professor at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Seattle, USA, is the recipient of the 2009 Behavioral, Epidemiological and Health Services Research Award, which will be presented by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) at its 87th General Session & Exhibition in Miami, Florida, USA, on April 1, 2009.

Dr. Hujoel began his education at the Free University of Brussels, where he earned a dental degree. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Master of Science in biostatistics and an M.S.D. in periodontics. He earned his Ph.D. in epidemiology at the University of Washington. He has served on the faculty in various positions at the University of Washington since 1989.

Dr. Hujoel has presented numerous papers on evidence-based dentistry and methodological issues in oral health research at scientific meetings. In addition, he has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications contributing to the evidence base or general knowledge of the periodontal disease processes, risk factors and co-morbidities for periodontal diseases, and oral-healthrelated quality of life.

The Behavioral, Epidemiological and Health Services Research Award is generously supported by Sunstar Americas, Inc. and is designed to stimulate and recognize outstanding achievements in the areas of behavioral science and health services research as they relate to dentistry. The award consists of a monetary prize and a plaque and is one of the 16 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
