Alexandria, Va. – The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) awarded the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) a multi-year Bloc Travel Grant in the amount of $250,000, which will fund the grant through 2013. Each year, this award will assist approximately 50 students and NIDCR-supported trainees in attending the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) General Session & Exhibition for the next five years in the following locations: Miami, Florida (2009); Barcelona, Spain (2010); San Diego, California (2011); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2012); and Seattle, Washington (2013).
"AADR is grateful to the NIDCR for its generous support of the AADR Bloc Travel Grant," said AADR President Brian H. Clarkson. "We are delighted to offer this award to dental students and trainees, and to give them exposure to international research colleagues."
The NIDCR has funded the AADR Bloc Travel Grant program since 1975. The most recent support from the NIDCR to AADR funded three years of the AADR Bloc Travel Grant for awardees to travel to the IADR General Sessions & Exhibitions located in Brisbane, Australia; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Toronto, ON, Canada.
Each year, Bloc Travel Grant recipients are selected based on the originality of their research design, innovations in technique, and scientific merit. Dental students, enrolled in accredited US dental schools, who are citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence, along with NIDCR-supported trainees, are eligible to apply for the Grant.
