Science, the L'Oréal Corporate Foundation and UNESCO announced today the release of "Young Women in Science: Forging New Pathways" their second booklet targeted to young women interested in science.
Created to attract a greater number of female students to careers in the sciences, the booklet is a joint project between all three organizations, and features profiles of 17 women scientists who are also recipients of a L'Oréal -UNESCO Fellowship. International in scope, the guide highlights the careers of women scientists from countries including Romania, Pakistan, Iran, Argentina and Jamaica.
According to L'Oréal Executive Vice President Beatrice Dautresme, the Young Women in Science booklet is an effort to steer young women towards science careers by highlighting success stories they can emulate. "By exposing young girls to the real-world examples of scientific careers, the booklet contributes to the creation of positive role models," said Dautresme. "These role models are indispensable to attracting new generations to careers in science."
Beth Rosner, publisher of Science, agreed, "We are very excited to partner with the L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO on this project. AAAS shares their commitment to increasing the number of women at all levels of science and believes that distributing tools like this booklet is an important part of efforts to fill the talent pipeline with dynamic and intelligent women."
