Springer and the Society for Mycotoxin Research have signed an agreement to publish the peer-reviewed journal Mycotoxin Research, the official journal of the Society. Aimed at academics and professionals working in the food-producing industry, the journal deals with all topics related to mycotoxins, the harmful compounds produced by molds. The first issue will appear in March 2009.

High-quality original research papers and review articles in Mycotoxin Research address all aspects of toxinogenic molds found in virtually every environment worldwide – as contaminants in foods and feeds, in mold-infested buildings and in living organisms infected by pathogenic fungi. The interdisciplinary nature of Mycotoxin Research will appeal to researchers, scientists and university instructors in microbiology, food science, veterinary medicine, allergology and public health. Dr. Ewald Usleber of the Institute of Veterinary Food Science at the University of Giessen, Germany, is editor-in-chief. He is supported by an international editorial board.

In addition to the printed version, the complete contents of the journal will be published on Springer's online platform SpringerLink, greatly improving accessibility for subscribers. Furthermore, 11 years of backfiles of Mycotoxin Research (1997-2008) will be made available online by Springer. The publication schedule will continue in 2009 with four printed issues per volume, and with Springer's Online First™ feature, accepted manuscripts will be published online well ahead of the print version.

Dr. Dieter Czeschlik, Editorial Director for Life Sciences at Springer, said, "For a quarter of a century, Mycotoxin Research has had an excellent reputation as the interdisciplinary journal dedicated to all aspects of this research field, from the ecology and genetics of mycotoxin formation to the human and animal health aspects. We look forward to working with the Society for Mycotoxin Research to guarantee even better visibility of their high-quality articles."

Dr. Manfred Gareis, Chairman of the Society for Mycotoxin Research, said, "The impact of mycotoxins for public health and economy is enormous, and research in this field is vital to understand, control and prevent their adverse effects. As a leading international publisher, Springer will ensure maximum recognition of the studies published in Mycotoxin Research. Subscribers will strongly profit from the improvements coming with the new online availability of the journal."
