Business Announcement

American Gastroenterological Association

Bethesda, MD (Jan. 15, 2009) – The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Institute journal, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is the medical journal with the most impact on the field of clinical medicine, according to a recent analysis of Essential Science Indicators data by Thompson Reuters. This impact was measured by the greatest percentage increase in citations for any clinical medical journal. The current citation record for Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology (CGH) includes 653 papers cited more than 4,400 times between Jan. 1, 1998 and Aug. 31, 2008.

"Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a unique journal that helps practicing gastroenterologists better treat their patients based on the newest published data," said C. Mel Wilcox, MD, MSPH, editor-in-chief. "Coming so soon after the announcement of CGH's high impact factor, we are pleased that the data being published in the AGA Institute clinical journal is so well-received by its audience in the clinical care community."

CGH was launched in 2001 as a clinical journal for gastroenterologists. CGH publishes research that is immediately applicable to practicing physicians and can be used in the clinic or for teaching. CGH has a prestigious board of editors, led by Dr. Wilcox, and has an international reviewer base. Studies submitted to CGH undergo a rigorous peer-review process, therefore, only the highest quality content is accepted for publication. In 2008, CGH received its first impact factor – after only five years of publication, CGH received a remarkable score of 5.465, debuting at a rank of eight out of 50 gastroenterology- and hepatology-related journals. The impact factor is a measure of how often papers are cited in the medical literature.
