Starting in February 2009, Springer will publish the Journal of Plant Biology, the official journal of the Botanical Society of Korea. The journal first appeared in 1958 and was published until 1994 under the title Korean Journal of Botany. International in scope and broad in coverage, the Journal of Plant Biology presents research contributions on all aspects of plant science. Springer will digitize the back volumes of the journals from 1997 onwards, making them available to readers through the Springer Online Archives Collection.

The Journal of Plant Biology is open to high-quality research papers dealing with all phases of experimental plant biology including biotechnology, biochemistry and macromolecular structure, cellular and developmental biology, ecology, genetics and genomics, molecular biology, morphology, physiology and taxonomy of plants. The bimonthly journal publishes general papers, reviews, short communications and preliminary reports detailing significant research contributions to plant science. Editor-in-chief is Dr. Gynheung An of Pohang University of Science and Technology in Pohang, South Korea.

Jacco Flipsen, Editorial Director of Plant Sciences at Springer, said, "Springer has a vibrant program in plant sciences and we are excited that the Botanical Society of Korea and their journal will add value to our plant sciences portfolio. Together with the Society, we are determined to widen the reach of the Journal of Plant Biology. Our online information platform SpringerLink, with features such as Online First and Cross Reference Linking, will be instrumental in achieving that goal."

Dr. Hong-Keun Choi, President of the Botanical Society of Korea, said, "Since much of the research submitted to the Journal of Plant Biology comes from outside South Korea, we are pleased to be partnering with Springer and look forward to working with them to give our journal an even wider international focus."
