Starting in January 2009, Springer will publish the European Transport Research Review (ETRR), the official journal of the non-profit association European Conference of Transport Research Institutes (ECTRI). All articles will be published free of charge for authors and readers and will be available on the online platform www.springerlink.com. In partnership with Springer, ECTRI will publish this new open access journal to disseminate research results in the field of transport and make them more visible in the scientific and professional community.
The quarterly journal will publish peer-reviewed research papers in English, on both theoretical as well as applied research, whose excellence and content represent an important contribution to transport research in Europe. It will cover a broad range of topics such as freight transport and logistics, mobility and transport behavior, safety and security, transport and economics, environment, infrastructure, planning, policy, transport system management and vehicle technology.
Thanks to the open access publishing model, the journal will be easily accessible and available on the Internet. It will focus on issues of special interest to European transport research, its funding bodies and supervising organizations.
Although the journal is primarily aimed at the scientific community of transport research, it will also be relevant to practitioners in the field of transport, especially those involved in policy making as well as in the operation and management of transport systems. Its material will try to blend in the best possible way the results of prime transport research, providing answers to the "real world" problems.
The European Conference of Transport Research Institutes (www.ectri.org) is an international non-profit association registered in France. The Institute was officially founded in April 2003 by 15 national transport research institutes and universities from 13 European countries. ECTRI is the first attempt to unite the forces of the foremost multimodal transport research centers across Europe and to thereby promote the excellence of European transport research. Today, it includes 20 institutes or universities from 17 European countries. Together, they account for more than 3,000 European scientific and research staff in the field of transport. ECTRI's long-term vision is to create a network of excellent research institutes by combining the strengths and potential of all its members and using their expertise and/or infrastructure.
