A further new multidisciplinary journal in the neurosciences, Cognitive Computation, will be launched by Springer in March 2009. With this addition to its publishing program, Springer provides a new platform for the dissemination of research, current practices and future trends in the emerging discipline of Cognitive Computation, which bridges the gap between the life sciences, social sciences, engineering, physical and mathematical sciences and the humanities.

Cognitive Computation will publish cutting-edge articles describing original basic and applied work involving biologically inspired computational accounts of all aspects of natural and artificial cognitive systems. By establishing a forum to bring together different scientific communities, Cognitive Computation will promote an understanding of diverse topics, including those related to perception, action, attention, learning and memory, decision making, language processing, communication, reasoning, problem solving and consciousness aspects of cognition.

Dr. Amir Hussain from the University of Stirling, Scotland, UK, is the Editor-in-Chief and Dr. Igor Aleksander from Imperial College, UK, is the Honorary Editor-in-Chief. The international editorial board includes leading experts from Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Japan, and the USA as well as the United Kingdom, with Dr. John Taylor from King's College, London, serving as Chair of the journal's advisory board.

Ann Avouris, Editor, Neuroscience, at Springer, said, "Cognitive Computation is the first journal to publish exclusively in this emerging field, and will both define and develop this nexus of interdisciplinary research by encouraging an effective exchange of ideas. Its broad appeal and application will make it a vibrant addition to our journals portfolio."

Dr. Amir Hussain, the journal's Editor-in-Chief, said, "The launch of Cognitive Computation by Springer heralds an exciting new era in this highly interdisciplinary area. The journal identifies a distinctive, timely and productive niche at this growing interface between neuroscience, cognitive science and artificial intelligence. Cognitive Computation is hence unique both in its scope and its target, and its broad yet complementary remit is also reflected in the breadth of its distinguished editorial and strategic advisory boards."

Springer will publish Cognitive Computation in both electronic and quarterly print formats. All articles will be published online via Online First™, a feature that allows authors to bring their work to the attention of their peers at a very early stage of the publication process. All authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, will have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model.
