Springer

Starting in January 2009, Springer will publish the International Journal of Social Robotics, an important addition to its growing engineering publishing program. The quartely journal aims to provide an overview of the current state of the social robotics field, how the field and related technologies are set to evolve in the future and their impact on society at large.

The International Journal of Social Robotics will cover a broad array of topics related to the study of robots able to interact and communicate among themselves, with humans and with the environment within the social and cultural structure in which they function. The original, peer-reviewed articles and contributions will focus primarily on innovative ideas and concepts, new discoveries and improvements, as well as novel applications in the core technologies of social robotics. Topics of interest include design philosophies, socially appealing design methodologies, human-robot interaction, robot-robot interaction, neurorobotics, biomedical robotics, robot-ethics in human society and interactive robotic arts.

Nathalie Jacobs, Publishing Editor, Engineering, at Springer, said, "It is exciting to be able to play a role in disseminating ideas and developments in a field that shows so much growth potential and has so many applications in the real world. To see how scientific research is translated into new technologies that impact everyday life at every level is fascinating and worthwhile. This is an important new journal and we are looking forward to making it a success."

Editor-in-Chief Professor Shuzhi Sam Ge, from the National University of Singapore, said, "While social robots are still in their infancy, and their integration into our society remains to be investigated, we are confident that the International Journal of Social Robotics will provide a unified platform for researchers from diverse disciplines to work together and contribute to the scientific community."

Maximum exposure of articles will be gained through SpringerLink, Springer's online platform. Features of the online edition include fast publication with Online First™ and CrossRef, which are reference links into and out of the electronic content. Editorial Manager, a state-of-the-art submission and peer-review system, will be fully implemented for the journal.
